Tapestry fabric "Solar" graphite
Working with cultural heritage: the tapestry is inspired by the imagery of an angel from Old Believer manuscripts. It illustrates a passage from the Revelation of Saint John, where an angel appears and presents a book for the prophet to consume. Traditionally, this figure is depicted with a sun for a head, a cloud for a body, and pillars of fire for legs.
Transforming this canonical image, Irina Batkova drew the angels by hand, making them light and dynamic. The artist placed them within a world of Russian symbolism, where Sirin birds and birch trees meet foxes and cosmonaut-matryoshkas. This world is designed to bring joy to the interiors it inhabits.
Collections: The work is held in the collection of the Moscow Design Museum.
Exhibitions: “Tryn-Trava: Modern Russian Style,” Moscow Interior and Design Week, ArtDom, and other leading venues.
